Yes, typing errors are counted as errors in the onSET. Each answer must be linguistically correct. However, the time allowed is sufficient for participants to correct any typing errors.
The onSET result indicates levels A2, B1, B2 and C1. No distinction is made between levels below A2 and above C1. There are no sub-levels such as B1.1 or B1.2 – if required, you can refer to the core areas of a level.
The onSET results are permanently available. All results can be accessed at any time via the g.a.s.t. portal for test centres and participants.
You can access the online verification via the QR code on the certificate. Once you have entered the details, you will immediately receive confirmation of the authenticity of the information. You can access the online verification at here.
Yes, British and American spellings are equally valid in onSET-English.
Both the old and new spelling rules are permitted – for example, “Fluss” and “Fluß”. If the ß is missing from the keyboard, onSET-German provides a selection bar below each cloze text. Umlaute must be entered correctly – ae/oe/ue are not accepted. The selection bar is also available for this purpose.
The onSET assesses general language proficiency (C-test principle: cloze tests). The tasks are generated in accordance with the rules for designing C-tests; you can read more about this at . It does not provide separate assessments of the individual skills of reading, listening, writing or speaking – but there are proven correlations with all four skills.
